About Us
Launched in 2020, Healthy Brain LA is a program within the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Guided by the National Healthy Brain Initiative Road Map, Healthy Brain LA is designed to encourage individuals and communities to prioritize brain health and address the impact of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in Los Angeles County.
Healthy Brain Initiative: Los Angeles (HBI-LA) - Active
This initiative is funded by the California Department of Public Health Chronic Disease Branch Alzheimer's Disease Program. HBI-LA is currently in its second iteration (2022-2025) and aims to implement strategies that promote brain health, raise awareness among health professionals and the public about Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and accelerate risk reduction strategies among Los Angeles County residents. HBI-LA is a collaborative effort led by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health in partnership with the following local agencies:
- Alzheimer's Los Angeles
- Alzheimer’s Association California Southland Chapter
- Rancho Los Amigos/University of Southern California, California Alzheimer’s Disease Center
- University of Southern California Family Caregiver Support Center
Los Angeles County BOLD Initiative (LA BOLD) - Active
Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, LA BOLD is currently in its second iteration (2023-2028). By supporting the HBLA Coalition and championing the implementation of the Los Angeles County Strategic Plan for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias, 2023-2028. LA BOLD aims to strengthen local public health efforts and foster collaboration across multiple sectors, including public health, aging services, health systems, and community-based organizations to address dementia in Los Angeles County.
Healthy Brain Initiative Road Map Strategist - Completed
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health was selected to participate in the Alzheimer’s Association Road Map Strategist 2022-2023 cohort. As part of this initiative, the Department of Public Health worked to identify and analyze local data that could be used by internal and external stakeholders to inform public health program and policy responses to cognitive health, impairment, and caregiving.
