About Us

Launched in 2020, Healthy Brain LA is a program within the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Healthy Brain LA is comprised of three main components, the Healthy Brain Initiative: Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County BOLD Initiative, and the Healthy Brain Initiative Road Map Strategist. Guided by the National Healthy Brain Initiative Road Map, Healthy Brain LA is designed to encourage individuals and communities to prioritize brain health and address the impact of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in Los Angeles County.

Healthy Brain Initiative: Los Angeles (HBI-LA)

This initiative is funded by the California Department of Public Health Chronic Disease Branch Alzheimer's Disease Program. It is a collaborative effort led by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health in partnership with local agencies and organizations that provide care and services to people living with dementia, their caregivers, and families. HBI-LA aims to implement strategies that promote brain health, raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and accelerate risk reduction strategies among Los Angeles County residents.

Aims and Accomplishments (2020-2022):

Los Angeles County BOLD Initiative (LA BOLD)

This 3-year initiative (2021-2023) is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Building Our Largest Dementia Public Health Program. The primary aim of this initiative is to facilitate the development of a strategic plan to address Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in Los Angeles County. The Department of Public Health leads this initiative in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Aging and Disabilities Department.

Healthy Brain Initiative Road Map Strategist

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health was selected to participate in the Alzheimer's Association Road Map Strategist 2022-2023 cohort. As part of this initiative, the Department of Public Health is working to identify and analyze local data that can be used by internal and external stakeholders to inform public health program and policy responses to cognitive health, impairment, and caregiving.
