TPI Overview
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Office of Violence Prevention partners with community residents and stakeholders to implement the Trauma Prevention Initiative (TPI) to reduce violence-related injuries and deaths. Launched in 2015, TPI aligns County services and initiatives to build a comprehensive, place-based approach through innovative programs, policies, and partnerships. TPI supports a community-driven approach to public safety that is survivor centered, and empowers community leadership, coordinating across sectors to build infrastructure for prevention and well-being in the county’s highest need communities. TPI is initially focused on South Los Angeles and building a place-based model that can be scaled to additional communities.
CAPs are currently established in Westmont West Athens and Willowbrook. Additional CAPs are in the process of being established and will be added later.
Funded Prevention Strategies
Community stakeholders prioritize strategies that build leadership capacity and promote dialogue and healing. Community engagement in TPI communities builds local leadership, promotes positive identity, and develops priorities to guide violence prevention work through Community Action for Peace (CAP) groups, community events and summits. Community engagement also provides avenues for other departments and initiatives to get involved in the communities.

Our one-on-one mentoring program offers LGBTQ youth the opportunity to be matched with an adult in our community who will support them in goal-setting.
We train each mentor with skills to be there for their mentee – not as parents or teachers, but as people who are there to guide them in being the absolute best selves.
Work Ready Program
Are you currently looking for a new job, looking to build new job skills, or seeking out new career opportunities, but don't have the device or internet connection to make that happen? Work Ready is here to help.
A 6-week session (being offered 6 times through 2021)
Participants borrow a laptop and wireless hotspot kit from one of the 20 participating libraries.
Participants receive special support items to aid in the job search process, which they can keep.
Weekly virtual programs will cover topics ranging from writing cover letters and interviewing to identifying high-growth careers and working from home.
Project Return Peer Support Network: Peer Volunteers Needed
Project Return Peer Support Network is a non-profit Peer-Run Mental health organization that creates opportunities for connection that enrich and inspire individuals with mental illness to purse a life without limits. We need YOUR help in creating LGBTQIA2-s peer support groups for the community. DPH Nutrition and Physical Activity program's partners are participating at many of the Parks After Dark (PAD) events to conduct nutrition education, physical activity classes, and free produce giveaways including some located in Willowbrook and Westmont West Athens communities.
The Long Beach Emergency Rental Assistance Program (LB-ERAP) is designed to assist landlords and income-eligible tenants (renters) who have experienced financial loss or hardship due to COVID-19 through rental assistance.
LB-ERAP is part of the Long Beach Recovery Act. The federal Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 provides the funding to support the program, which is designed to implement the tenant protection laws enacted by the State of California (SB 91). The program is established to provide assistance exclusively to landlords and tenants in Long Beach and is separate from the State’s rental assistance program. Applicants should not apply to the State program if the unit for which they are seeking assistance is located in the City.
LB-ERAP will help income-eligible tenants pay rent and utilities, both for past due bills and future payments. The program will prioritize assisting lower-income tenants who have been unemployed for 90 days or more and who are at risk of housing instability.

Criminal Record Clearing Project: LA County Homeless Court Program
HEART (Homeless Engagement and Response Team) administers the LA County Homeless Court Program. The Homeless Court helps participants resolve eligible traffic and pedestrian infraction citations by engaging in services instead of paying fines and fees they cannot afford. HEART asks the LA County Superior Court to dismiss the infraction if it is open, suspend the fines and fees if it in collections, and recall any associated warrants.

Claris Health is a community-based non-profit with clinic locations in West and South LA. They specialize in providing medical, mental health, and support services, primarily to pregnant women and families with children under the age of five.
We are reaching out to you today to announce the launch of our Virtual Care Services. We are offering pregnancy support appointments, parenting classes, and parent mentorship.
