Requirement 1: Earn 6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

CEUs keep you updated on car seat safety laws, product changes, and best practices.

🎓 Ways to Earn CEUs:

  • Attend webinars, live trainings, or watch manufacturer videos
  • Complete approved online courses or CEU modules
    • Stay sharp by exploring CEU-approved webinars and materials
    • SafetyBeltSafe U.S.A. ( Home | Carseat.org ) – Offers CEUs, newsletters, tech updates, and training modules.
    • National Child Passenger Safety Board – Offers a schedule of upcoming, ongoing, and recorded webinars - many qualifying for continuing education credit - focused on child passenger safety and related topics.
    • Child Passenger Safety Learning Portal – serves as a child passenger safety learning portal offering courses, how-to-guides, and professional development resources for child restraint safety.

Requirement 2: Complete 5 Car Seat Checks with Instructor/Proxy Review

  • Rear-facing convertible seat
  • Forward-facing with harness seat
  • Belt-positioning booster seat

These seat checks can be done in-person or virtually (check with your instructor or proxy). You must educate the caregiver, check for proper installation, and document each check in your Safe Kids Certification account.

Requirement 3: Participate in a Car Seat Checkup or Community Event

Participate in at least one community education during your certification cycle

Examples include:
