CPSP Training and Workshops Description

CPSP Overview Day 1
(8 Hour Group Class)

This class is a general overview of the CPSP model of care as well as Title 22 (CCR) program requirements. It will include an introduction to the following components: initial assessment, trimester reassessments, postpartum assessment, the (4) weight-gain grids, dietary intake assessment using the Perinatal Food Frequency Questionnaire (PFFQ), care plan development and documentation requirements. .
Prerequisite: None
Intended Audience: Administration, Comprehensive Perinatal Health Workers (CPHW) and others who may or may not provide direct perinatal care.

CPSP Overview Day 2
(8 Hour Group Class)

Participants will be taught how to administer the Initial CPSP Assessment/Reassessment and Postpartum Assessment tools. They will also practice developing individualized patient care plans, plotting the client s weight using the appropriate weight-gain grid, and completing the Perinatal Food Frequency questionnaire.
Prerequisite: Must have attended CPSP Overview Day 1
Intended Audience: Comprehensive Perinatal Health Workers (CPHW) and others who provide direct perinatal care.

Elements of Basic Breastfeeding - Assessment and Intervention
Class time: 9 am to 3:30 pm
(6 Hour Group Class)

CPSP practitioners will increase their knowledge and skills in providing breastfeeding assessment, intervention, and documentation of services. Training is interactive and, in addition to standard training materials, utilizes videos and other visual aids to enhance the learning experience.
Prerequisite: CPSP Overview (previously called CPSP Basic)
Intended Audience: Comprehensive Perinatal Health Workers (CPHW) and others who provide direct patient care

Intimate Partner Violence/Domestic Violence:
(3.5 Hours at provider site)

CPSP providers and staff will discover that IPV (Intimate Partner Violence/Domestic Violence) is a serious social and public health problem. Participants will learn about the "cycle of violence" and how myths regarding IPV can affect the care given to patients. Steps for screening a patient involved in IPV, as well as the clinic's legal responsibilities, will be explored. The class concludes with practice developing a patient safety plan and documentation of IPV on the patient’s care plan.
Prerequisite: CPSP Overview (previously called CPSP Basices)
Intended Audience: Comprehensive Perinatal Health Workers (CPHW) and others who provide direct patient care.

Protocol Workshop:
(2.5 Hour Group Class)

Participants will learn how to develop CPSP protocols as required by Title 22, California Code of Regulations. This hands-on workshop includes how to customize protocols and identify community resources. To fully benefit from this workshop, participants should bring their own office protocols, if available, and will work from them throughout the workshop. Annual protocol review and protocol update will also be discussed. Prenatal and postpartum protocol templates are posted on the CPSP website.
Prerequisite: None
Intended Audience: provider or other person responsible for developing the protocols.

Perinatal Depression Screening Training
(2 Hour Class at provider site)

The goal of this training is to promote for depression during and after pregnancy using Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). Participants will learn about etiology and types of depression, effective screening techniques using an interactive case study, available treatments for depression and additional resources for mental health referrals.
Prerequisite: None
Intended Audience: All staff is encouraged to attend. A physician or other clinician is required to participate to discuss medical liability issues.
