The purpose of the MCAH Data Resource Center (Data
Center) is to promote access to local MCAH data. The
Data Center aims to provide an online catalog of
data resources including but are not limited to
information about local data pertinent to maternal,
child and adolescent health in Los Angeles County,
data reports, health briefs, evidence-based
resources, interactive tools, and other related data
resources for MCAH stakeholders such as public
health professionals, researchers, practitioners,
policy makers and students.
The Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Programs
has adopted and incorporated the life course
perspective in its programming, service delivery and
policy development. The U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services, Maternal and Child Health Bureau
describes the key concepts of Life Course Framework
as “instead of focusing on differences in health
patterns one disease or condition at a time, Life
Course Theory (LCT) points to broad social, economic
and environmental factors as underlying causes of
persistent inequalities in health for a wide range
of diseases and conditions across population groups.
LCT is population focused, and firmly rooted in
social determinants and social equity models. It is
also community (or “place”) focused, since social,
economic and environmental patterns are closely
linked to community and neighborhood settings.”
On a regular basis, the MCAH Data Center will
highlight an important piece of MCAH data aimed at improving the health of mothers,
infants, children and adolescents.
