Best Practices Recommendations
Give Tdap Vaccine

Maximize convenience for patients by providing Tdap vaccine in your prenatal clinic. Give Tdap during 3rd trimester every pregnancy.

Refer for Tdap

If your clinic does not offer Tdap vaccine:

Write a prescription and refer Fee-for-Service and Presumptive Eligibility Medi-Cal patients to a local pharmacy. Ask for documentation of vaccination.

Managed Care patients should be referred back to their primary care provider for Tdap. Ask for documentation of Tdap vaccination
.
Add Tdap to Prenatal Care Checklists

Add Tdap to your prenatal care checklists with other lab and important prenatal tests.

Educate OB and CPSP Staff

Education all clinic staff on the importance of giving Tdap in the 3rd trimester of every pregnancy.

Document Vaccinations

Consider using the California Immunization Registry (CAIR) to document and share immunization records with other providers.
