On August 8, 2018, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, along with the California Air Resources Board (CARB), Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer, and the County of Los Angeles announced a $119.5 million settlement with the Southern California Gas Company over the unprecedented natural gas blowout from a ruptured well at its Aliso Canyon Natural Gas Storage Facility in Porter Ranch, California.

The settlement will reimburse for costs associated with city, county and state response efforts. As shown in the attached infographic, it will also fund:

• A long-term health study ($25 million);
• Local air monitoring ($3 million);
• Methane capture projects to offset the methane emitted during the blowout ($26.5 million);
• Environmental benefit projects throughout the county.
