Making a difference for the families we serve

Help Me Grow LA (HMG LA) is a program of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH). HMG LA helps families find services that can support their child’s development. HMG LA’s Family Partners offer practical advice, information, and support so families can get help in their community. LACDPH also partners with First 5 LA, child health care and service providers, and other community agencies to guide families in their child’s developmental health.

Family Partners

Family Partners are parents with lived experience in raising children with special needs. Family Partners are available in each of our 8 regions throughout L.A. County. Family Partners help by finding local resources and services, assisting with filling out paperwork for complex health care issues, and sharing personal experiences from their own child’s developmental journey.

Our Vision

All families in L.A. County have the support they need to help their young children get the best start in life and achieve optimal development.

Our Mission

Help Me Grow LA supports all families in promoting young children's development and lifelong success by connecting them to developmental services and supports that promote their child's well-being.

Our Commitment to Serve All Families

All children and their families should have the resources and opportunities needed for their best health and well-being. We are working to improve racial, social, economic, and environmental fairness by helping families and caregivers get quality resources to support their child's development.

Early Intervention and Identification Matters

One out of four children ages 0–5 in California is at risk for a developmental delay, yet only one out of three have developmental screenings on time. And only 3% of infants and toddlers are receiving early intervention services. Too many young children are not getting the right services and supports, if they get any help. When children get the services they need early in life, they need less support later and are more ready to succeed in school and life.

Keeping Families Front and Center

Help Me Grow LA’s Coalition keeps the family voice at the center of HMG LA, champions HMG LA in the community and workplace, and helps ensure that HMG LA is a resource that families, caregivers, and child health providers can always count on.

The HMG LA Coalition is a collaborative group of diverse stakeholders, including families, advocates, service providers, community organizations, and policymakers. The primary focus of the Coalition is to address the developmental needs of children 0-5 and their families. The Coalition does this by leveraging community input to inform and influence policies, improve service delivery, and promote equity and inclusivity. The Coalition operates under the principles of shared governance, transparency, and accountability, ensuring that community voices are at the forefront of decision-making processes.
