Park Rx Los Angeles County is a community health initiative that aims to prescribe parks to improve patients'
physical and mental health by increasing park utilization. Medical providers are in a vital position to influence

The physical and mental health benefits of increasing physical activity and exposure to nature are well
documented. Despite this knowledge, Los Angeles County community members struggle with alarming inactivity,
chronic disease, and health inequality barriers. Physical inactivity is a term used to identify people who
do not get the recommended level of regular physical activity.
Park prescription programs across the nation have assisted providers in breaking health inequality
barriers. These programs encourage patients to visit parks to improve physical and mental health
by meeting the physical activity guidelines.
