Laser Skin Rejuvenation

What is it?

Skin rejuvenation, otherwise known as non-surgical face lift, is done to improve skin’s irregularities from wrinkles, acne scar, and pigmentation. The term covers treatments from light epidermal peeling and microdermabrasion to in-depth exfoliation treatments, chemical peels, laser treatments, and dermabrasion. Conditions that can be treated with skin rejuvenation include static and dynamic wrinkles, pigmentation, scars, loss of skin tone and vascular conditions.

Who can perform it?
Physicians may use lasers or intense pulse light devices. In addition, physician assistants and registered nurses (not licensed vocational nurses) may perform these treatments under a physician's supervision. Unlicensed medical assistants, licensed vocational nurses, cosmetologists, electrologists, or estheticians may not legally perform these treatments under any circumstance, nor may registered nurses or physician assistants perform them independently, without supervision.

SAFETY TIPS:
Most laser skin rejuvenation procedures are considered medical treatments, depending on the depth of the treatment, although lighter and more superficial treatments are considered basic skin treatments. More in-depth skin rejuvenation and resurfacing procedures (i.e. affecting the living tissue beneath the epidermis) are considered by states boards as medical treatments that should only be performed by medical professionals (RN or PA) under the supervision of a physician.
