Healthcare Outreach Unit

Health Services Advisory Group (HSAG) HSAG in California is a part of the Quality Innovation Network — Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) under contract with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). HSAG recently developed and disseminated a training program on reducing infections in the nursing home setting entitled, “Operation Infection Control: Win the Battle Against Infections!” Key stakeholders in California shared best practices during these sessions. HSAG is also working on reducing infections in hospitals and improving care coordination/transitions in care in communities.
California Department of Public Health (CDPH) In two regions (Orange County and the Greater Sacramento area), the CDPH Healthcare-Associated Infections Program is offering CDI Collaboratives for nursing homes and hospitals to work together to reduce CDI events. Quarterly learning sessions will be offered as well as on-site support from CDPH Regional Infection Preventionists.
California Association of Health Facilities/Quality Care Health Foundation QCHF, the educational arm of CAHF, offers an annual Infection Control 2-Day Course and covers topics such as surveillance, antimicrobial stewardship, management of MDROs, outbreak management, employee health and other topics.
California Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program Working with the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care in collaboration with the Health Research and Educational Trust and CAHF on a project addressing catheter-associated urinary tract infections and healthcare-associated infections in the nursing home setting in California. This project will increase the knowledge of these issues among nursing home residents and their family members and hopes to reduce these types of infections. Project funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
