Veterinary Public Health

Introduction

Most students are focused on providing individual health care, not on herd health or community medicine. The focus here is on the population or herd as opposed to the individual.

Our program provides an opportunity for veterinary students to explore a career in public health in the 21st century through its public health externship. The externship provides the individual with “hands on” experience working in a large metropolitan health department and experiencing some of the problems encountered.

Public health rotations are mainly for third and fourth year veterinary students who want to gain some experience working in a major metropolitan health department.
