Public Health Nursing

The Tuberculosis Control Program is an administrative office responsible primarily for the surveillance and receipt of reports of tuberculosis suspects and cases in Los Angeles County.

Located within the Department of Health Services, Public Health Programs and Services, the mission of the Los Angeles County Division of HIV and STD Programs is to prevent STDs, including HIV, and to promote sexual health.

The mission of Acute Communicable Disease Control (ACDC) is to prevent the spread of communicable disease in Los Angeles County. ACDC conducts epidemiological investigations of outbreaks and provides recommendations for control measures.

The Childhood Lead Poisoning and Prevention Program aims to prevent lead poisoning in children by pro-active action to educate the public regarding the hazards of lead poisoning, and to provide a comprehensive response to support lead burdened children, their families and the community.

The mission of the Los Angeles County Vaccine Preventable Disease Control Program is to improve immunization coverage levels and prevent the occurrence of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs).

The Los Angeles County Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Program provides mandate follow up of supports offered by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services public health nurses and social workers. Services include and are not limited to providing information about SIDS, community resources for coping with any infant loss for the entire family, both adult and children, and burial supports.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health protects health, prevents disease, and promotes health and well-being for all persons in Los Angeles County. Our focus is on the population as a whole, and we conduct our activities through a network of public health professionals throughout the community.
