Maintaining a Healthy Weight
What is a Healthy Weight and
Why Should You Achieve It?

Workout equipment and a scale

You might think a healthy weight is a low number on a scale or a slim body. Looking and feeling your best does not mean you need to look like everyone else. Healthy bodies come in all shapes and sizes.

A healthy weight depends on various factors, including your height and age. A quick way to know whether your current weight is healthy is knowing your Body Mass Index or BMI.

Body Mass Index (BMI)

BMI is a measure of body fat based on your weight in relation to your height. In general, the higher your BMI, the greater your risk of developing serious weight-related health problems.

Use this online BMI calculator to find out what your BMI is!

Check out the table below to see if your weight is healthy according to your BMI.

BMI Chart

If your BMI is high, check out our Healthy Ways to Lose Weight Page.

How Can a Healthy Weight Impact Your Health?

  • Being at a healthy weight can give you more energy to enjoy the things you like to do

  • Depression can be more common in people with a higher BMI. Read our more about depression here

  • Being at a healthy weight can help prevent future illnesses that may run in your family, like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and even some types of cancer
