Medical Grand Rounds
Course Description:   This Continuing Medical Education (CME) training is presented by the State Medical Officer.  Information on California Code of Regulations (Title 17) for Health Care Providers (HCP) participating in publicly funded programs (CHDP, Healthy Families, and WIC & Medi-Cal) and Standards of Care on Screening for Lead Poisoning is reviewed.   Lead Awareness information and the role of the public health nurse (PHN) and registered environmental health specialist (REHS) in lead case management are also presented.


Course Objectives

Following this training the participant will be to:

  • Identify targeted screening regulations on standards of care on screening for Lead poisoning.
  • State major behavioral risk factors associated with Lead poisoning.
  • List major health effects associated with Lead poisoning.
  • List the primary sources of Lead.  
  • List global cultural products that contain lead.
  • Differentiate the responsibilities of the doctors, nurse practitioners and physician's assistants administering doing periodic health care assessments on children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years.
  • Differentiate the role of the PHN and EHS in Lead case management.

Target Audience:  Physicians, Registered Nurses (RNs) including: Nurse Practitioners (NP), School Nurses, and PHNs.  Health Educators (HE), EHSs and Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) are encouraged to attend.


CME credits are available.
