The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, along with the Health Care and Reconciliation Act, combine to create legislation that is commonly referred to as, ”Health Care Reform” or more simply the “Affordable Care Act.”  President Obama signed this legislation into law in March 2010. The Affordable Care Act features a wide number of changes and improvements to many of the programs that make up the U.S. health care system including Medicare, Medicaid (Medi-Cal), and individual and group insurance. Several key provisions of the Affordable Care Act take effect in 2014 when most U.S. citizens will be required to maintain a certain level of health coverage.

This web page offers updated information on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act in the State of California as it relates to funding for HIV/AIDS service providers in Los Angeles County.  In Los Angeles, the program is referred to as Healthy Way LA (HWLA).  Please check back periodically as we continue to add new material and information.
