The
Community Pedestrian Plan will help the County address corridors in
East Rancho Dominguez that have concentrations of collisions,
identified in red on the map.
These corridors were identified as having had 3
or more fatal or severe injury collisions within a half mile segment
between 2013-2017.
These corridors are the focus of the County’s new
traffic safety initiative called, Vision Zero,
which aims to eliminate fatal injury traffic collisions on County
roadways by 2035.
These corridors are part of the 3.8% of County
maintained roadways where 50% of all fatal and severe injury collisions
have occurred.
By working with community to understand concerns
and opportunities for walkability enhancements the Pedestrian Plans
will help the County achieve the Vision Zero goal.
Community
Outreach
The Department of Public Health (DPH) has
partnered with the Los
Angeles Neighborhood Initiative (LANI), a community organization
with strong ties to East Rancho Dominguez, to lead the community
outreach and engagement efforts for designing and planning a safe,
walkable, and pedestrian-oriented East Rancho Dominguez.
LANI, along with County partners, will be leading
workshops, mapping activities, and listening sessions to hear from
residents, local business leaders, and other stakeholders on the
strategies that they want to see implemented for improving walkability
in the community.
Workshops and other activities will be virtual
throughout 2021 and will be bilingual. Youth, families, seniors, and
anyone interested in providing ideas or learning about pedestrian
planning is highly encouraged to participate.
