The Affordable Care Act, or ACA, aims to decrease the number of Americans who are uninsured, while improving the quality of health care and decreasing its overall costs.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) works to protect health, prevent disease and injury, and promote the health and well-being for everyone in Los Angeles County. In light of health care reform, this mission includes strengthening our efforts to protect the health of populations and assuring the quality of services provided throughout the public health and health care systems.

How Can I Get Health Coverage?

    The Health Exchange

  • California's Health Exchange, Covered California: California’s health insurance marketplace. It will open later this year to enroll eligible Californians for health coverage that will begin in January 2014. Legal residents of the state of California who do not have health insurance from their employer or another government program can purchase health insurance through Covered California. It's the only place where consumers can use tax credits or cost sharing subsidies from government assistance programs to lower their  health care costs.
