What are the Social Determinants of Health?
Social determinants of health are conditions in the environment
in which people are born, live, work, play, worship and
age. These factors affect a wide range of health and
quality of life outcomes.
Why are social determinants important to public health?
The
Department of Public Health's mission is to protect health, prevent disease, and promote health and well-being for everyone in Los Angeles County.
Addressing social determinants of health will help us
achieve health equity, making sure that everyone can
reach their full health potential.
