Perhaps one of the most challenging things for front line staff in residential settings to applying the rules in a trauma informed way. It gets overwhelming and some of us cannot embrace the complexity. It is far easier to see things as black and white, right or wrong, good or bad. “No” becomes our primary sentence. This is extremely frustrating to homeless youth, but a survival mechanism for staff.
