The 2008 Public Health Week theme is climate change, an issue that poses significant risks to the public's health. For example, air pollution is linked to asthma and other respiratory and cardiovascular conditions; health waves result in heat-related deaths and illnesses, particularly among the elderly, and changes affecting plant and animal life can lead to increased risk of infectious disease and food and water-borne illness.
