LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) has posted closure signs due to a sewage spill affecting beaches from 100 yards up coast and down coast of the Ballona Creek outfall. The closure is due to an 1100 gallon sewage spill into Marina del Rey. The source of the sewage spill is due to blockage of grease in a sewer line that caused 1100 gallons of sewage to enter the storm drain that leads directly into the Marina.
Public Health officials are advising residents to avoid contact with ocean water. Beach users are advised to stay out of the water until areas of the beach have been cleaned and the advisory is removed. Dry areas of the beach are not affected by this advisory.
Recorded information on beach conditions is available 24- hours a day on the County's beach closure hotline: 1-800- 525-5662. Information is also available online at : PublicHealth.LACounty.gov/Beach/.
