  • What services are available at HFD headquarters?
    Answer:  Consumers can file complaints about health care providers located in LA County. The health care providers under the jurisdiction of Health Facilities Division (HFD), includes Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF's), Skills Nursing Facilities/Intermediate Care Facilities (SNF/ICF), Home Health Agencies (HHA's), Hospice, Congregate Living Health Faciliteis (CLIFFS), Intermediate Care/Developmentally Disabled-Habiliative (ICF/DD-H), Intermediate Care/Developmentally Disabled-Nursing (ICF/DD-N), General Acute Care Hospitals (GACH's), Chemical Dependency Recovery Hospitals (CDRH's), Acute Psychiatric Hospitals (APH's), End Stage Renal Dialysis Facilities (ESRD's), Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC's),Referral Agencies, and certain types of clinics, licensed or certified by HFD. Complaints can be made by:

    Answer:  The California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform maintains data on Nursing Homes throughout California, and provides other useful information about Nursing homes and services for health care consumers.   • How do I file a complaint about a Physician?
    Answer:  Complaints about Medical Doctors can be made by contacting the Medical Board of California, 1-800-633-23-2322 or 916-263-2499.

  • I have concern about a Home Health Agency. Where should I go?
    Answer:  For complaints and licensing information only, call the Home Health Hotline at 1-800-228-1019. Patients looking for their home health nurse should contact the specific home health agency directly.
  • What is the difference between Board and Care Faciities and Intermediate Care Facilities for the Mentally retarded?
    Answer:  Group homes, Board and Care Facilities are licensed by the Department of Social Services Community Care Department and not Health Facilities Division (HFD). The only category of group home that HFD has oversight responsibility are Intermediate Care Facilities for the Developmentally Disabled (Habilitive/Nursing) and Hospice Facilities.
