Mission of the
Office of Women's Health
To improve the health status of women in Los Angeles
County by providing education and promoting resources,
programs and policies that are helpful and responsive to
women, and increasing access to culturally competent,
comprehensive health services.
Objectives
- Develop a clearer understanding of women's health status in Los Angeles County, with particular focus on high risk groups and emerging health issues
- Identify Department and County programs addressing specific health needs of women
- Identify existing data resources related to women in Los Angeles County and compile and disseminate this information to be used in the planning and implementation of programs and services
- Prioritize issues and develop policy recommendations to the Director of Health Services for the Board of Supervisors regarding scientific, medical, ethical, and policy issues related to improving the health status of women
- Develop and implement women's health policy initiatives
- Assess and evaluate programs and policies affecting women's health, and recommend proven innovative approaches to increase the effectiveness of health-related services and programs
- Increase coordination and collaboration within DHS and between DHS and other County departments, public and private sector agencies, service providers, advocates, and stakeholders
- Focus attention on consumer and provider education on critical health issues facing Los Angeles County women
