Smile Survey

Description

OHP has a contract with the Regents of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Center for Health Policy Research to conduct the Los Angeles County (LAC) Smile Survey. The LAC Smile Survey, also referred to as the Los Angeles County’s Children’s Oral Health Needs Assessment (NA), obtains county level estimates for over 10,000 children on the prevalence of dental caries (tooth decay) experience, untreated dental caries and urgency of need for dental care among kindergarten and third grade children in addition to the prevalence of protective dental sealants on permanent first molars among third grade children. The Los Angeles County Smile Survey was conducted during the 2018-2019 school year. Screenings were completed in the Fall of 2019. The survey report will be finalized in December 2020 with a County launch in February 2021.
