Oral Health Spotlight

Description

A baby’s first tooth usually appears around 6 months old. The first teeth to come in are almost always the lower front teeth (the lower central incisors), and most children will usually have all their baby teeth by age 3. Taking care of baby teeth is very important. Every caretaker can help their baby with good oral care by following these helpful tips:

• Taking their baby to the dentist when their first tooth comes in or by their first birthday

• Laying baby to bed without a bottle in their mouth

• Giving baby water instead of juice in their bottle

• Gently wipe your baby’s gums with a washcloth or a finger toothbrush after every feeding.

• Keeping cavity-causing germs out of your baby’s mouth; only using clean pacifiers, utensils, teething rings, and baby-bottle nipples.
