While drowning deaths among children occur year round
in Los Angeles County, 70% of these deaths occur during
summer months with over 50% occurring in private
swimming pools. Of all infant and toddler drowning
deaths 88% occur in private swimming pools. In addition
to drowning deaths, near-drowning accidents can often
leave children with brain damage and disability. Steps
to avoid drowning accidents include close and constant
supervision of children at all times when near water and
layers of protection.

can help you and your children make your home as “drown
proof” as possible and help prevent someone from
drowning.
