Research and Analysis
The Research and Analysis team conducts special projects that aid strategic planning to guide DPH and the County’s preparedness and response activities. This team assists in the development of evidence based operational plans through review of the current scientific literature, conducting needs assessments and population surveys, as well as performing epidemiologic, geographic information systems, supply/demand, and evaluation studies. It also identifies operational, legal, and policy challenges and develops recommendations to improve the DPH's ability to respond to public health emergencies.
Major Projects

The 2007 Public Health Response and Emergency Health Threats (PHRETS II): 3,250 adults ( cross sample of adults countywide and augmented sample of adults within selected racial ethnic subgroups) to examine public perceptions of Public Health threats and emergency preparedness.

The 2007 LA County Emergency Preparedness Follow-Up Survey: 2,750 adults (cross sample of adults countywide & augmented sample of adults within selected racial ethnic subgroups) to evaluate the impact of County’s ongoing “Just Be Ready. Prepare Together!” multicultural education and out reach campaign to increase awareness of need to assemble a disaster supply kit and establish communication plan.

The surveys are currently being analyzed. The findings will be used to inform the development of appropriate risk communication strategies and community specific & targeted emergency preparedness messages and interventions. Findings will also provide assessment of effectiveness of emergency preparedness program outreach efforts amount different sub populations.
