Environmental Health In Los Angeles County

WHAT IS ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH?

We are an enforcement agency operating as part of the County of Los Angeles, Department of Health Services. The common  title of our staff is "Health Inspector," but the official title is "Environmental Health Specialist." The State of California mandates that only qualified, trained professionals may perform the duties within the scope of this field. Our staff of professionals have backgrounds in the sciences including chemistry, physics, biology, microbiology, mathematics and environmental health.


 

OUR MISSION

The mission of Environmental Health is to protect health, prevent disease and promote health for all persons in Los Angeles County.

To achieve this mission, Environmental Health controls potentially harmful chemicals, physical or biological agents in the environment. These agents are controlled through education and enforcement of local, State, and Federal public health laws and regulations.
