This program is responsible for the enforcement of public health laws and
ordinances pertaining to transient housing and institutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SERVICES:
- Conducts inspections of hotels and motels to
determine if the facilities are clean, well maintained,
free of vermin (rodents, cockroaches, and bedbugs),
properly laundering linens, and washing and sanitizing
drinking glasses and coffee cups provided in the guest
rooms
- Conducts plan reviews and approves the
installation of complimentary breakfast bars at hotels
and motels
- Conducts inspections of group homes
for the elderly or disabled, such as assisted living
facilities and residential care facilities, for
maintenance and sanitation issues. (For complaints about

Conducts inspections of private and parochial school
campuses and cafeterias, at all educational levels

Conducts inspections of student housing at private
colleges and universities, including on-campus
dormitories, and fraternity and sorority homes

Conducts inspections of child care centers and
preschools for maintenance and sanitation requirements

Approves organized camp program activities and inspects
organized camps
- Conducts inspections of
emergency housing for the homeless such as: homeless
shelters, single room occupancy hotels, and domestic
violence shelters
- Inspects city and County
operated adult and juvenile detention centers (jails),
court holding locations, and probation camps to
determine compliance with environmental, nutritional,
and medical care requirements
- Conducts
inspections of emergency shelters established in
response to an emergency or disaster, such as a wildfire
or an earthquake
- Investigates medically verified
carbon monoxide poisonings at residential housing where
natural gas burning appliances are not suspected
