The Children’s Planning Council’s three arenas of action to achieve better outcomes for children and families is reflected in the work of its three standing committees which support the Council’s theory of change. The work of the committee’s is pursued in partnership and collaboration with many groups, organizations, and institutions, both public and private. Each of the committees rely heavily on data, development of change-oriented resources, tools, and policies; and promotion of an outcomes and results approach to planning.

The committees are:
  • Transforming Systems that Serve Children and Families Committee (TSC)
  • Strengthening Community Capacity Committee to mobilize for change (SCC)
  • Building Countywide Commitment to Outcomes Committee (BCC)

The overarching focus on data to effect change in the lives of children and families led to the establishment of a fourth committee in 2001, the Data Partnership for Children and Families Committee.

Board of Supervisors Approves
The Three Goals

On February 3rd, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved three bold goals and nine recommendations introduced by the Children’s Planning Council (CPC) to help improve the plight of children in Los Angeles County. The recommendations – based on data reflected in the 2003 Children Now California Report Card and the CPC Los Angeles County Children’s ScoreCard – represent important steps for the County of Los Angeles to address issues of poverty, health access, and child welfare. Specifically, the County hopes to achieve the following goals:

  1. By July 2005, ensure that an additional 135,000 children and youth are enrolled in health coverage programs.
  2. By July 2005, significantly increase the number of children living in safe, stable, nurturing families.
  3. By July 2005, increase the number of families with children that claim and receive the Earned Income Tax Credit by 20,000.

To achieve these goals, the Board of Supervisors approved a set of recommendations, to be carried out by its agency leaders in partnership with community stakeholders. To review the recommendations and the many partners that helped craft them, please click on the links below.
