    If you suspect that a patient is infected with MERS or intend to test a patient for MERS, immediately call Acute Communicable Disease Control to assist with diagnosis and implementation of infection control.

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a viral respiratory illness that is new to humans, caused by a coronavirus. This disease was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012 and has since spread to several other countries, and two cases were identified from travelers in the United States in May 2014. In May 2015, an outbreak of MERS was identified in South Korea.
